Caring for Your New Tattoo

The first few days after getting a tattoo are crucial for the healing process. I recommend keeping your tattoo clean and moisturized. Avoid soaking it in water and keep it out of direct sunlight.

I recommend these 2 aftercare options:

Cling film wrap- cling film acts as a temporary protective barrier for a fresh tattoo. It helps keep bacteria and dirt out, prevent friction from clothes and helps the tattoo settle whilst its in that 'leaky' stage. Your aftercare instructions will depend on the size and style of your tattoo, so I will provide you with the correct instructions before you leave the studio. You can use cling film for the first 24-48 hours max, I wouldn't recommend any longer as cling film is not breathable and you could trap in bacteria causing an infection.

'Second skin' tattoo film- This is a thin, transparent, breathable adhesive film placed over a fresh tattoo. It protects the tattoo from bacteria and friction. I seals in plasma, which is our body's natural healing fluid. And it also speeds up healing by keeping the area moist but clean.

Healing Stages

Understanding the healing stages of your tattoo can help ensure it looks vibrant for years to come. Expect some swelling and redness initially, followed by peeling and flaking as the tattoo heals. Patience is key during this time, and i'm here to guide you through the process.

The science in case you were interested!:

How does healing work?

After tattooing, blood clotting begins almost immediately > inflammation develops as immune cells enter the area > new skin forms over the surface > collagen repairs the damaged tissue.

The flaking and peeling seen during healing is mainly the damaged outer skin being replaced, while the pigment remains deeper in the dermis. Fascinating stuff!
